Juxtaposition
can be defined as placing two variable, side by side and their contrast or
similarity are shown through comparison. Many creative processes rely on
juxtaposition. By juxtaposing two objects or words next to each other, human
brain will automatically associate or transfer meaning. Usually ‘turning’
something familiar to something less familiar or vice-versa.
For example:
On week 7, we need to do an activity involving juxtaposition. There are some steps to be followed.
Step 1:
Choose 3 random numbers starting from 00 to 99.
So, I choose 11, 81 and 07.
Step 2:
Lecturer show a slide contain 2 column of words. Words on the first side are numbered from 1 to 0 while on the other side are numbered from 0 to 1.
Here's the words:
Step 3:
Construct 3 sentences based on the numbers and those words.
This is what I've done:
-11(flower water): Flower can grow in water.
-81(oil water): The two siblings didn't get along well, they are just like oil and water.
-07(fly tree): The bird is as fat as a tree.
Step 4:
Put the words together based on the numbers. Draw pictures to associate them.
a. 11 (flower water)
b.81 (oil water)
c. 07 (fly tree)
As you can see, this is a very interesting activity. We can improve our creativity and understanding towards juxtaposition.
Next activity required us to write a love poem based on chilli.
Love and chilli,
how can i relate them,
how can i express how close they are in some terms.
Love and chilli,
they always make me feel the thrill,
make my heart pounding fast,
make my adrenalin rushing.
Love and chilli,
though i know the its hot and spicy,
its still cannot stop me to have them.
